Background
Azadi Kenya is a survivor-led, counter-trafficking NGO that focuses on the provision of long-term support for
survivors of trafficking who, too often, find a lack of community support and understanding when
reintegrating into society ensuing their experience with trafficking. We run several programs which are
meant to facilitate healing, reintegration, and survivor leadership. Our goal is to create spaces and programs
that enhance the agency of survivors of trafficking, support recovery from trauma, and sustain their
reintegration into society.
We are doing this through the operation of a resource center where the survivors receive vocational and soft
skills training to empower them, give them valuable skills, and give them all it takes to become leaders of
their communities. Our programs also focus on aspects such as the mental health, leadership, well-being,
and development of the survivors, giving them the tools they require to thrive.
Azadi is looking to hire a dedicated communications officer to join our team. The communications officer will
support our internal and external communications strategy, write and disseminate content on who we are,
what we do, our values, our programmes, our activities, and respond to inquiries from the public and media,
and coordinate promotional events.
Deliverables
This is an opportunity for communications officers to be part of the Azadi where they will be responsible for
how Azadi is represented to the world through social media and other communication platforms.
Azadi is seeking a Kenyan- based applicant to undertake this assignment.
The applicant is expected to deliver the following in the course of the assignment:-

Social media management e.g developing blog content and creating social media posts

Content and plan development.

Preparation and compilation of the Azadi quarterly newsletter distributing it, and maintaining a

distribution list.

Develop and maintain Google Ads.

Format reports and other official documents on Canva.

Website development and maintenance.
-
Participating in proposal and concept note writing for projects and any other duties assigned.
Duration
The application is a one-year contract with a 6 month probation period.
Essential Requirements
-
Experience in a non-profit communication role.

One or two years of experience in website, email, and social media communications.

Understanding of Trauma Informed and ethical communication skills.

Track record of writing articles, developing visual content, and multimedia skills, including photography

Preference will be given to persons with a lived experience of modern slavery (Human Trafficking)
Personal Attributes

Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.

Good time management and organizational skills.

Content creation skills like writing, photography, and videography

Proficient in social media platforms, Microsoft Office, and content management systems e.g. Canva.

The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or

backgrounds is required.
Award criteria and Appointment
The appointment will be awarded to the best candidate chosen by the Azadi recruitment panel depending
on demonstrated understanding of the needs of the client and relevant experience.

Management of consultant
The appointed successful applicant will work in collaboration with Azadi staff. The successful applicant will
make themselves available for meetings when needed by Azadi throughout the duration of the contract.
